The Hurricane was powered by a 12 cylinder 1,030-hp Rolls Royce Merlin engine and had a top speed of 324 mph. It was armed with 8 x .303 Browning machine guns mounted in the wings. The Hawker Hurricane came to be regarded as one of the most rugged and reliable fighters in RAF service. It could turn inside any contemporary fighter and played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain.
