Miniature Victorian Figurines - Queen Victoria, Darwin, Brunel and Dickens.

Queen Victoria (1819-1901)
Born at Kensignton Palace, London on 24 May 1819. She reigned during the height of the industrial revolution, a period of significant social, economic and technological progress in the United Kingdom. Victoriais reign was also marked by a great expansion of the British Empire which became the foremost Global Powerof the time. Victoria died at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, on 22 January 1901 after a reign which lasted almost 64 years.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882)
Was a English naturalist who was famous for his theory of "natural selection". As a young scientist he set sail on the HMS Beagle in 1831 and came back with observations on the varieties of fossils and livig animals that made him question the Bible's story of creation. His findings were published in a book called "The Origin of Species" in 1859, which sold out straight away. He died in Downe, Kent, England, on 19 April 1882 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859)
Was a engineer who specialised in the building of railway tunnels, steam ships and bridges. He won a competition to desgin the Clifton Suspension Bridge in 1831 and was appointed cheif engineer of the Great Western Railway before he was 30 years old. He built the SS Great Britain in Bristol which could carry 250 passengers, 130 crew and 1,200 tonnes of cargo. In 1852 Brunel was employed by the Eastern Steam Navigation Company to build the SS Great Eastern the largest ship of the 19th century.

Charles Dickens (1812-1870)
Was born in Portsmouth and was the greatest novelist of the Victorian age. He was acclaimed for his rich storytelling and memorable characters including Oliver Twist, Scrooge and David Copperfield. The popularity of Dickens's novels and short stories has meant that none have ever gone out of print. He died in 1870 and contrary to his wish to be buried in Rochester Catherdral, he was buried in the Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey.
