70th Birthday Gift Ideas

70th Birthday Gift ideas for those born during the 1950s

The 1950s saw a recovery from World War II. With rationing finally ending in 1954, sweets and cereals became more available in the stores and summer holidays at Britain's iconic seaside resorts became an annual event for many. The Crooner sound of the previous decade from the greats like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Doris Day and Bing Crosby continued until the rise of Rock and Roll in the mid 1950s. New household names like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Connie Francis rose to fame and, of course, the King himself, Elvis Presley. Marilyn Monroe made her debut and became a hit in the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, whilst Ben-Hur stormed away with success at the Academy Awards, receiving 11 Oscars.  Attendance at cinemas dropped however, as the sales of TV sets increased rapidly. In sport, Formula 1 had its inaugural season in 1950 and Pele made his debut in 1958. Here at Sweet and Nostalgic we have carefully selected a wide range of gifts to commemorate many of these exciting events so why not take your loved one on a trip down memory lane.
