First built in Doncaster in 1923 and numbered 4472 The Flying Scotsman has had quite a journey in its lifetime, it has travelled the globe on special visits and was once the staple of the London to Edinburgh route on the LNER line, even pulling the famous orient express pullman. It started life painted BR green, then black during world war two, and even blue, it has currently been restored back to it's classic apple green colour. The number 60103 was adopted when British Rail took over the lines in 1948. Often regarded as the golden age of Train travel, these travel posters are familiar to generations of train travellers across the UK, most of these artworks encouraged families to explore the United Kingdom via train. Specially commissioned artists such as Ronald Lampitt, Norman Wilkinson and Frank Henry Mason produced beautiful British Rail Travel Posters for all of the major towns and cities across the UK.
