Guide to Decimal Money Booklet
Decimal Day, or D-Day in the U.K. and Northern Ireland was 15th February 1971. Before this date, the British pound was made up of 20 shillings, each of which was made up of 12 pence, a total of 240 pence. Instead of counting in twelve's and twenties, the U.K and Northern Ireland would be counting in tens and hundreds! With decimalisations the pound kept it's old value and name, but the sub units below it changed.
This 21 page booklet is a reproduction of the information booklet created to help the public fully understand the changes and how it would affect them when shopping. It makes fascinating reading and will no doubt bring back memories of confusing times for many!
