The semaphore flag signalling system is an alphabet signalling system based on the waving of two flags into set positions. The flags are usually square, red and yellow, divided diagonally with the red in the upper hoist. The flags are held with arms extended. Semaphore signals were widely used, particularly in the maritime world in the 19th century. Naval ships still carry this form of signalling with them to this day. Signs placed in direct sunlight will naturally fade over time. However, placing your sign in the right place will ensure years of happy viewing.
